What is the HEXACO model?

The HEXACO model extends the five-factor tradition by proposing a sixth broad personality dimension — Honesty-Humility — that captures individual differences in sincerity, fairness, and the avoidance of greed and self-aggrandizement. Cross-language lexical research independently identified this dimension across multiple language families, suggesting it reflects a genuine facet of personality structure not fully captured by five-factor frameworks. Each of the six HEXACO domains is measured by four narrow facet scales, yielding a fine-grained profile across 24 personality facets.

The IPIP-HEXACO is a public-domain operationalization developed by Ashton, Lee, and Goldberg (2007) using items from the International Personality Item Pool. It is widely used in personality research and provides a comparable alternative to proprietary HEXACO instruments.
