How Dovetails Works
Dovetails is built on the interpersonal circumplex principle of complementarity: dominant behavior pulls for submissive behavior; hostile behavior pulls for hostile behavior; warm behavior pulls for warm behavior. Your own interpersonal style creates a “pull” for specific complementary patterns in others.
The Millon personality framework maps the eight circumplex octants to Millon’s personality patterns — active-detached, passive-detached, passive-dependent, active-dependent, passive-discordant, active-discordant, passive-independent, and active-independent. Dovetails uses your own assessment profile (if completed) to identify your interpersonal pull, then scores your partner’s pattern against your ideal and nightmare complement.
